How do you find a right Spiritual Guru ?

There is a popular saying in Hindu and other Dharmic traditions. You don’t find a Guru but the Guru finds you.

As the individual seeking gets more mature the SathGuru / Ultimate-Guru / Perfect Master calls you. But the individual has to keep the seeking alive and constant. One on the spiritual journey one may come across one or many Gurus, you would have followed their teachings online, books, discourses, programs or in-person.

How do you know of the Guru is right for you? More importantly, How do you know of the Guru is the Sath Guru ?

There is no definitive answer except, that you just know. If the Guru is the SathGuru / Perfect Master then you don’t have to worry about him/her being the “right” one.

What are some of the characteristics of the Perfect Master? Perfect Master is the embodied form of Super-Consciousness. I would look for the following.

1. Powers of Super-Consciousness (Shaktis) are their visiting card. Typically either they or their disciples these extra-ordinary capabilities. Miraculous healing and more are usually associated with them.
2. The have deep experiential knowledge higher dimensions of life.
3. If they operate in regular society and make themselves know, their very existence will “stir” up “controversy”. Larger their scale of their vision larger would be the “controversy” “generated”.
4. Some of them don’t let themselves be known to the society at large and are secluded.
5. ParamaHamsa or Avatar or God (not men of God) are usually associated with them. They are not concerned with “secular” political correctness.

When you find (or the Perfect Master finds you) the perfect master / SathGuru, one need not look further.
